The kernel of an idea blossomed into a three-hour day at Iona Prep this Sunday that project dreamer/planner/developer Sarah Flynn hopes raises $10,000-$15,000.

Flynn, an Ursuline senior and member of its cross-country and track teams, has put together a walking/running benefit for the organizations Girls on the Run and Right to Play.

The event is called Laps for Love. There will be a DJ and concessions will be sold. The public is invited to participate and donate or just watch.

Girls on the Run, located in all 50 states, serves girls third-through-eighth grade and incorporates running as part of a confidence-building program.

Right to Play is international and targets disadvantaged/war-torn areas, incorporating play and games into education and other activities.

"I always wanted to do On the Run. It just fits well with what our team is - empowering younger girls and older girls," Flynn said, adding Right to Play follows a similar message of empowerment through sports.
