This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
In almost every way the Spartans had an incredibly dominating year with wins at Baldwinsville, McQuaid-AAA, Burnt Hills-3, Sectionals, States, and Federations. The only way to improve is to nail down one of those top two places at NXN-NY so that they can run for a national championship. Rated #3 in the preseason with a mainly intact squad that includes the big top duo of Tyler Berg and Aidan Gillooley along with Evan Brennan, David Metacarpa, and Nick Hunziker, Burnt Hills has a number of other guys who can slide into the top 7 and provide the depth that is vital for a national contender. Keeping the legs fresh all the way to the NXN meets is the key, and Nationals finalist Berg can provide a lot of information about how to do that.

This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Pirates regained their S1-B title last year and moved back into the top 5 at States for the first time since 2010. Getting a 4th state championship in a year when Burnt Hills is rated among the top 3 teams in the nation would be a tall order, however a deep Pearl River squad led by seniors Patrick McCann and Jack Reynolds will be a big favorite at Sectionals and the Pirates should certainly be aiming to move up a few spots at States.

This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Eagles have definitely had stronger squads in recent years than last season's States C champion, but everything worked out for them as they finally knocked off reigning champ Watkins Glen 50-67 to get their third crown in six years. As a reward for its big excellence, Mount was sent up to Class B to battle with Cornwall instead of being allowed to defend its title down in a relatively weak States C this year. Four of the members of last year's champs return including States medalists Travis Meier, Darren Baird, and Tristan Moody, and the battle with reigning S9-B champ Cornwall looks like it should be very even starting out the year. New challenges are good at building character, and the Eagles may soon have a chance to become the first program to win States titles in three different classes.

This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cornwall eased by reigning S9-B champ Goshen by 7 points at Sectionals last year and then went on to post their best ever finish at States with a 3rd behind Burnt Hills and Pittsford Mendon. The Dragons have won three of the last four S9-B titles, but now they are facing the unhappy prospect of having not only a resurgent Goshen program but the newly elevated Mount Academy team in its sectional class. Still, with five members of last year's team back and a top duo of Blaine Doyle and Seth Bywater on the lead, Cornwall is fairly evenly matched with Mount. On a squad that seems to return all seniors, the Dragons clearly need to do some restocking.

Last Year's Summary: 2nd in States B, 1st in Sectionals B
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
It took until the end of September to get reigning States champ Nathan Lawler back in the lineup last year, but once he returned, things.started to fall into place for the Vikings as they won their 6th straight sectional title and finished 2nd at States. Lawler captured a second States title and then earned a spot at Foot Locker Nationals, where he placed 28th to wrap up his Viking XC career. Lawler's brother Sam will now lead Pittsford Mendon's attack in his junior season, and he will have some strong help with Sectional top 12 guys James Smith and Matt Quieroz beside him. The Vikings probably have enough guys to hold off challenges from Batavia and Pittsford Sutherland this year, but the coffers are starting to look a little bare for a team that used to have great depth.
