Countdown: No. 5, Connolly Cracks 4:50 At NBN

As expected, this was an extremely difficult task. With so many to chose from, we have come up with a list of what we consider the top 20 performances of the outdoor track & field season. We rank them in order, beginning with No. 20 and finishing with No. 1.

Countdown: No. 5, Connolly Cracks 4:50 At NBN

Easily one of the most eye-popping performances of the New Balance Nationals last month was North Rockland (NY) junior Katelyn Tuohy's amazing national record of 4:33.87 for the mile. The real race, as it turned out, was for second and it was our own Grace Connolly of Natick that secured that spot. Connolly accomplished her season-opening goal of breaking 4:50 by clocking 4:49.34 on a hot Sunday afternoon in North Carolina. She held off a pack that included five other runners under 4:51. Connolly's effort at NBN capped off a spring campaign that saw dominating performances at the MSTCA Coaches Invitationals, the EMass Division 1 Championships and the All State Meet.
