Monique Hardy Smashes Soph State Record For Silver At NBON

Greensboro, NC -  What happens when the preeminent Indoor Weight Thrower gets her first real taste of National Competition in the Outdoor Hammer this season?  The Sophomore State Record, of course.  That was par for the course for Monique Hardy (Webster Thomas), who threw the Hammer out to 184-2 for second place at New Balance Outdoor Nationals, only 5-inches off 1st.  Already the Soph State Record Holder in the Weight Throw Indoors, Hardy bested the previous Soph State Hammer Record by 20-ft.  That record, set in 2008 by Karen Henning (Saint Anthony's), stood at 164-3.

Hardy, who already held the Frosh State Record at 156-4, got her first real try at the Hammer this season the day after the Spring State Meet.  Throwing at a USATF Meet, she launched the hammer 163-7, just shy of that Soph Record.  It was surely in reach, and one week later, Hardy smashed that effort.

The National Sophomore record stands at 192-5, set in 2013 by Sabrina Gaitan of GA.  Hardy, who will have some more local USATF Meets, is well within reach of that mark.
