USA World Youth Trials: New Yorkers sweep the hammer throw

TUESDAY RESULTS

Faldermeyer, Henning sweep hammer

Alec Faldermeyer (Minisink Valley) and Karen Henning (St. Anthony's) both won the hammer throw this week at the USA World Youth Championships at Eastern Michigan University. Faldermeyer won with a toss of 223-08 while Henning won with a mark of 154-05.

 

Other New York athletes to compete included Elizabeth Briasco (Queens HS of Science - 3,000m - 10:12.84), Chamique Francis (Cardozo HS - 400m - 55.46), Claudia Francis (Cardozo HS - 800m - 2:09.23), Phyllis Francis (McAuley HS - 800m - 2:12.29), and Henrietta Miers (Bronxville - 800m - 2:20.13.

 

Jen Clayton (Suffern) and Whitney Fountain (Columbus) both long jumped. Clayton won with a leap of 19-07.5 while Fountain was 3rd in 19-00.

 

All athletes with the last name Francis qualified for the finals today.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS

Clayton, Claudia Francis win titles

Cornwall's Adrienn Lachance no heighted in the pole vault.

 

Chamique Francis was 8th in the 400m in 55.88.

 

Sisters Claudia and Phylis placed 1st and 4th in the 800m. Claudia won in 2:05.94 while Phylis ran 2:08.23. Emily Menges (Garden City) placed 6th in 2:10.33
