Utah Athletes Competing at New Balance Nationals!

Kalii Caldwell

Kalii Caldwell will be the only female athlete from Utah in a championship race.  Caldwell has had a great indoor season and has been winning quite comfortably against in state competition in the 3200m.  She will be racing the 5k at New Balance which will be new for her because the 5k isn't an event that High School athletes have the chance to run in Utah.  The last time a female athlete from Utah competed in the 5k at New Balance was Davis Alumni, Aubrey Argyle who walked away with a 4th place finish and all-American honors.  Can Caldwell match or even top that performance from 2015?  I don't know, but I do know that she will have a great field of runners to be pushing her as she races.  In this field we will also see former Utah athletes Grace and Lauren Ping.  The Pings moved to Utah last School Year and lived in Park City for a year before returning back to Minnesota.  Kalii, only a junior, has proven that she has the speeding endurance as she almost went sub 11 at Simplot, finishing behind two of the Nation's best distance runners in Aubrey Frentheway and Camila Noe.  Caldwell will also have the altitude advantage on her side so if she plays her cards right, she could upset a few of the favorites.
