Monique Hardy Inches Towards Sophomore State Record

We've seen Jumping Records, we've seen Vaulting Records.  We've seen Distance Records, and Sprints.  But one State Record we haven't seen fall this Indoor Season, in either gender, is anything in the Throws. That may be a testament to the strength of the Class Records on the books, and the athletes who have achieved them, but it's not stopping Monique Hardy (Webster Thomas) from chasing them down.

Hardy is already a known talent.  She twice took down the Freshman State Record in the Hammer Throw last year.  But since the Weight Throw was introduced to the Indoor State Meet, the records, and throws, have been flourishing.  On Saturday, at the Rock & Roll Throw Off in Lancaster, Hardy whipped a 54-2 to win the competition (video below).  It improved her best of 52-6.5 thrown two weeks ago, and brings her just short of the Sophomore State Record.  The record stands at 54-3.75 set at Indoor Nationals by Lancaster's own Melissa Kurzdorfer.  Kurzdorfer is probably the State's most well known female thrower in history, although Jillian Shippee (Shenendehowa) took down some of her Records the past few years. Now, Hardy is trying to do the same.

As the top seed for the State Meet, and still plenty of the season left to go, only two inches stands between Hardy and her first Indoor Record.
