Gabrielle Wilkinson ran a US#1 in the 1,000 meters for a second straight week, while two Pennsylvania relays threw down PA#1 times in a strong Dr. Sander Invitational at the Armory in New York. The select few Pennsylvanians in the fields made the most of the trip to Washington Heights.
Wilkinson retains US#1 1K
Wilkinson, who only a week earlier ran a US#1 time in the 1,000 meters at the VA Showcase, returned to the event in New York. Once again, she didn't disappoint. The Friends' Central senior pulled away from a talented field and won in 2:47.22. That over a three second improvement from her time in Virginia (2:50.35).
Heading into Millrose where she's qualified in the mile, Wilkinson is currently US#2 in the 800 meters, US#1 in the 1K, and US#8 in the mile.
Neumann Goretti betters own PA#1
The Neumann Goretti girls has been flexing its muscle all over the track this season. On Friday night, the Saints went after what might be the squad's best event, the 4x400 meter relay and came away with another quick time. N-G clocked a 3:49.05 for a runaway win.
This time improves upon the team's own PA#1 in the 4x4 of 3:52.07, which it set at the Armory's Marine Corps Classic in late December. The Saints now sit at US#4 in a year that has produced some incredibly fast 4x4s. It is also the fifth fastest indoor 4x400 meter relay time in state history behind only West Catholic (2004, 2005, 2010) and William Penn (2003).
Sydni Townsend split a 55.42 on the anchor leg to bring the team home to the victoy.
State College moves to the top of the state rankings
The State College Area girls made a big statement in the 4x800 meter relay on Saturday, dropping a state-leading time of 9:29.95 to take seventh place in a race that produced all six of the fastest times in the nation so far this season.
The Little Lions came away with a US#13 time that moves them ahead of previous state leaders Strath Haven. Esther Seeland split 2:16 on the anchor leg for State College.
Other Highlights
- Hill-Freedman's Armonte Paulk ran a time of 34.86 in the 300 meters to place sixth overall. That time moves him to PA#6.
- Collin Ebling of Pottsville Area placed seventh in the 1,000 meters in a PA#2 time of 2:31.52.
