Girls Race
This is one loaded race for a Wednesday meet. Fresh off her incredible Sophomore Class National Record in the 3000m four days ago, Katelyn Tuohy (North Rockland) takes back to the track to vie for a bid to the coveted Millrose Mile. But unlike that race, she has some stiff competition in the field. Marlee Starliper (Northern, PA) is the PA Breakout Star that won the Foot Locker Northeast Regional. She already has a 4:51.78 mile personal best, with an almost equal best of 4:49.68 in the 1600m. That was before Starliper took a big jump this XC season, and those numbers can drop significantly.
However, if we're bringing in personal bests from last year, Tuohy brings in that 4:18 in the 1500m from Spring States, plus a 4:45.95 in the Full Mile, on top of the similar breakout season Tuohy has in XC as well. The question is, how much did that 3k take out of Tuohy, and how close does it bring her to Starliper? Only time will tell.
They aren't the only two names to watch in the field. Victoria Vanriele (Governor Livingston, NJ) has dropped a 4:55.92 in the 1600m, and Lauren Wagner (Voorhees, NJ) has also dipped under with her 4:59.04. Reilly Siebert (Syosset) has run 4:29.08 for 1500m, which translates roughly into a 4:50 mile. Rounding out the challengers is Mary Hennelly (Suffern), who has run 4:58 for 1600m outdoors.
