In Saturday's Foot Locker Northeast Regional, both McDonogh School senior Dalton Hengst and Walter Johnson junior Abbey Green were able to qualify for the second consecutive year for the Foot Locker Nationals in San Diego two weeks from now via top 10 finishes in the seeded races at the regional meet.

After last year's record year for the state of Maryland which saw 5 runners qualify for Foot Locker Nationals, only two will be represented at nationals in 2017 with the two lone returnees from last year's group of finalists in Hengst and Green.

Hengst finished 4th overall in the boys race with a time of 15:39, which was 7 seconds off the winning time by Tristan Shelgren from Boxford, Massachusetts. He was nearly joined in San Diego by two-time Maryland state cross country champion Ryan Lockett of Poolesville, who finished in 12th place with a time of 16:05.

The recent UVA commit Green was able to secure her second Foot Locker Nationals appearance in finishing 7th overall with a time of 18:17. She'll be joined in San Diego by Paige Lester (5th, 18:12), who attends National Cathedral in Washington, DC and is a return Foot Locker finalist from the DMV area.

Both Hengst and Green will be looking to use their experience from last year racing at Balboa Park in San Diego to finish much higher and possibly All-American top 15 finishes.

Urbana's Brin Strouse was the next finisher in the seeded race from Maryland in 42nd place with a time of 19:50.
