Russ Runs Away

Although they will be in different classifications at next weekend's Sectional Championships, Ian Russ (East Aurora) and Cal Puskar (Orchard Park) squared off in their local league meet.  Both are the top seeded athletes in their class heading into Sectionals, as well as both being ranked within the State's Top Ten Individuals overall.

The pair stayed closed through the early stages of the race, but Russ began to separate.  The separation was slight, but proved to be insurmountable, as Russ came away with the fastest time of the day.  The mark is the fastest recorded run on the course in MileSplit's database, with the next best time held by Russ' former teammate, Kenny Vasbinder, who ran 15:32 in 2014. Let us know if we missed a previous record mark.

The team scoring was just as tight, as Clarence came away with a title by four points, over Orchard Park.  Both teams  had an individual in the Top 5, but it was Clarence's 3-5 that won them the race.  They'll match up again for a bid to the State Meet next week.

Sister Sweep

As has been all season, East Aurora took home the top two finishing spots, lead by sisters Molly and Megan Mclaughlin.  It hasn't always been the same finishing order, as 8th Grade Megan took home a McQuaid win, but the pair has been leading the way all season.

The team scoring was a little bit more exciting, as West Seneca West comes away with a 4point win over a fast closing East Aurora.  Aurora is the top team in the State in Class B, and was ranked 7th Overall, but Seneca came away with the upset.  They managed to put four girls ahead of EA's third, leading to a win.
