Disney Small School Races Dominated By Iona Prep / Ursuline Sweep


Not all trips can go as planned, but that doesn't mean they don't have to be successful.  For Iona Prep and Ursuline, their races at the Disney Classic in Florida had been pushed back 3 hours each, now under the lights.  The course ran long, about 3.3 miles, but it didn't stop the Koalas from performing their best.  Led by runner-up finish by Sarah Flynn, third overall in the merge, Ursuline managed to grab a 23-point margin of Victory in the merge.  They managed to place two girls in the Top 6, with less than a 2-minute compression 1 through 5.

Ursuline placed 10th in the overall merge, which includes larger schools from 3A/4A divisions.  It is unclear if the course was shortened on Saturday, when those teams ran, to return to the 5k distance.

The boys fared just as well as the girls, scoring 70-points in the merge, one point better than their sister school.  However, Iona Preparatory School had competition come closer, the margin of victory only 16-points.  The Gaels managed to put three in the Top 10 in the entire meet, led by sophomore Pedro Bravo in 16:55.80.  Their team compression and average were both a big jump from the rest of the small schools field.
