Last Year's Summary: 7th in NXN-NY, 2nd in Federation,1st in States B, 1st in Sectionals B
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Last year was all about nailing down the States title with a young team. Now a little older and experienced and with expectations heightened, Burnt Hills is aimed towards a high position at Nationals. Michael Bashant and Luke Gobel are gone from last year's squad, but Brennan, Berg, and Gillooley all earned States medals, and sophomores Metacarpa and Board should be set for the big leap from freshman year.

Section: 1 | Class: B | Colors: Royal blue and white
Pearl River's Matt Politis ran early in the States race with Glens Falls' Chris Hughes on his way to a 9th place.

Last Year's Summary: 6th in Stats B, 1st in Sectionals B
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Pirates couldn't quite put it all together at Sectionals last year and lost their crown to Somers by 10 points. This year though the full crew is back behind Matt Politis, and Pearl River definitely looks to be the strongest and deepest team in S1-B. A big group of juniors should see some speed ratings gains.
Pittsford Mendon | Vikings
Section: 5 | Class: B | Colors: Maroon and gold
Pittsford Mendon's state champion Nathan Lawler led the NXN-NY regional race for much of the way before taking 2nd and then going on to finish 40th at Nationals.

Last Year's Summary: 2nd in States B, 1st in Sectionals B
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Pittsford Mendon's three year streak of States titles finally ended last year with a 2nd place at Chenango Valley, though Nathan Lawler claimed the Vikings' third all-time individual title and qualified for Nationals. A big chunk of the team graduated, and that leaves PM with only Lawler and his sophomore brother Sam returning with 160+ TRs. The Vikings had a 1-point win at Sectionals over Brighton last year, but this year they appear to have a solid lead over Honeoye Falls-Lima and Brockport. With a group of younger guys moving up behind their frontrunner state champion, Mendon should be moving back up, and Nathan Lawler should have a historic senior season.
Goshen | Gladiators | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Section: 9 | Class: B | Colors: Royal blue and scarlet
Goshen's Liam Higgins got a 12th place medal at States to lead the Gladiators to 7th in their first visit there in 8 years.
XC History | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
States Teams: 1997 (B-1st), 2008 (A-9th), 2016 (B-7th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Mike St. Lawrence (1999-B-7th), Stephen Furst (2002, B-5th), Tom Cannariato (2009, B-3rd)
Last Year's Summary: 7th in States B, 1st in Sectionals B
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Last year the Gladiators announced themselves with a big 2nd place in the Pre-States-11 race and then went on to edge Cornwall by 1 point for the S9-B title and a first trip to a Class B race at States since they won it all in 1997. Now with most of the team back and some young guys coming up behind States medalist Liam Higgins and his fellow senior Louis Greco, Goshen is favored for a second Sectionals title in a row.
North Shore | Vikings | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Section: 8 | Class: B | Colors: Maroon and white
Jack Rosencrans (no. 829) ran to a 35th place at States as a North Shore sophomore.
XC History | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
States Teams: 1994 (C-11th), 2006 (B-10th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Tom Grimes (1976, B-1st)
Last Year's Summary: 2nd in Sectionals B
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
With Manhasset gone to Class A, North Shore takes over as the favorite in S8-B with a solid top 5 led by States finalist Rosencrans. The big question here is the depth issue on a senior-heavy team, so there is a big need for some younger guys to start moving into the Vikings' lineup.
