Kurzdorfer does it again, throws 47-11.75

Lancaster, NY star Melissa Kurzdorfer, the junior throwing star, tossed a career best 47-11.75 shot put with a heavy heart this weekend.

Buffalo, NY has been in the national news all week after the tragic news of Continental Flight 3407 crashing and 50 people dieing.  A team member on the Lancaster, NY track team lost their father and our thoughts are with all of those affected by this tragedy.

Kurzdorfer continues to improve upon her Section 6 record and take aim at the state record of 48-03, which is the best throw in the country this season.

Kurzdorfer breaks weight throw state record

Lancaster, NY junior Melissa Kurzdorfer broke the NY State record in the 20LB weight thrown when she threw 57-7.50 at the Rock and Roll Throw Off held at her home school. Her toss broke Kristen Callan's (Monroe Woodbury, NY) record of 57-01.75 set in 2003 and ranks Melissa #2 in the US this season.

Her throw also ranks her 7th all time in US history.

Kurzdorfer has also thrown 47-08.75 in the shot put this season, currently the US leader and 2nd best in NY State history.

Change is good for Kurzdorfer

Lancaster junior Melissa Kurzdorfer decided she needed a break. So she took the summer off – got away from the throwing circle and the weight room. Then she changed some things when the season started. Then changed things back.

NY girls ranked 1-2 in US in the shot put

Competing at The Dartmouth Relays in New Hampshire, junior Melissa Kurzdorfer of Lancaster, NY had a personal best toss of 47-09, the 2nd best throw by a New York high school girl ever and a new junior class state record.
