New Balance Collegiate Invitational - HS Preview

Junior Women's 1000 Meter Race

Two-time Millrose mile champion Jillian Smith of Southern Regional NJ leads this field, which could produce some times which find their way on the US all-time lists. Smith ran the nation's fastest mile time on the short track at Millrose last Friday night at 4:51 and also impressed with a 2:05 4x800 split this season. Smith is certainly ready to dip well under 2:50 this weekend.

Smith will be competing in a race which include the current four fastest in the country at 1000 meters with national leader Claudia Francis NY (2:53.16), Emily Menges NY (US #2 2:53.42), Amirah Johnson MD (US #3 2:54.39), and Paige Johnston VA (US #4 2:54.84). Johnston was a runner-up in last year's race to Chanelle Price with a personal best time of 2:51.

Junior Men's 1000 Meter Race

Another Millrose mile champion will be featured in the boys' 1000 meter race with Robbie Andrews of New Jersey coming off his big win at the Madison Square Garden with a sub 58 second last quarter. Andrews will need those wheels again this weekend with a field of speedsters including 800 national leader Sadiki White from Allentown High School in New Jersey at 1:52.4. A new US #1 time is certainly within reach for the race winner as the time to beat currently is 2:27.79 by Cas Loxsom of Connecticut.

Junior Men's 600 Meter Race

This could be the premier high school race of the weekend at the Armory featuring the 400 national leader Clayton Parros from New Jersey, the Hendrix twins of New Bern NC, and 600 national leader Terrence Livingston of Great Neck South NY. Although Livingston has the nation's fastest time in the event with a US #6 all-time performance of 1:19.48 last weekend at the Armory, it is interesting to see that he is being considered somewhat of an underdog against Parros, who competed in the professional 600 yard race at Millrose last week and the Hendrix twins, the nation's fastest two currently in the 500 with 1:03 performances at Virginia Tech.  With such a loaded field, there is the potiental for at least four under 1:20 posting US top 10 all-time performances.

Junior Women's 600 Meter Race

A preview of the New York state meet with the nation's fastest in the event reigning from the state led by US leader Phyllis Francis of Catherine McAuley at 1:31.13. Four of the five fastest in the US will be in the race as behind Francis on the national leaderboard and challenging her in Saturday's race will be Charlene Lipsey of Hempstead (US #2 1:32.34), Breanda Crump of Mt. Vernon (US #3 1:32.60), and Brie Roller of Lakeland/Panas (US #5 1:33.40).
