Top 10 Moments of 2017 - Numbers 2 & HM

Honorable Mentions

1 - Jess Lawson Takes Back McQuaid Record

While Lawson had two main candidates on the list (her last lap kick at Indoor States was the first moment out), it was her reclaiming of the McQuaid Course Record two years later that came out on top.  One of the most storied courses in the State, and Lawson shattered the record by 7-seconds.

2 - Spring Sweet Home State 4x100

The fastest 4x100m to come from Upstate New York since the State Record in 1993, the quartet from Sweet Home came from not qualifying from the 4x200m Indoors, to winning States in Spring.  Did we mention the entire relay comes back next year?

3 - Lauren Harris Dominates Her Event

No athlete besides the two Gatorade National Players of the Year (Sydney McLaughlin for Hurdles and Mondo for PV) dominated their event nationally like Lauren Harris did in the Racewalk.  Both national titles, both 1500m and Mile National Records Indoor and Outdoor, represented Team USA, and competed internationally.

4 - Ramone Newland Splits 45.9, Sweeps 55/300m

The Jamaican born sprinter from South Shore was poised for big things, as he swept the sprints Indoors, and split the fastest 400m of the year, Indoors.  Unfortunately, he was never able to recover from an injury sustained at NBIN, and who knows how fast he could have gone outdoors.  Still, the sweep was near unprecedented, with numerous great relay splits to boot.

5 - Katelyn Tuohy Wins First National Title - US #20 AT

After years of competing in the relays, Tuohy took her first step out as an Individual.  She clocked a US #20 All-Time mark at NBN's, and gave a scare to those out at Brooks PR with her new Frosh National Record.

6 - Kyree Johnson Returns At Loucks - 3 Golds and 1 Silver

It was a long road back for the injured star from Huntington, but no better way to announce his return than by dominating the Loucks Games.  He took second in the 200m, then gold in the 400m, Long Jump, and anchored their winning 4x400m.

7 - Erica Ellis Reaches New Heights

Once again improving upon her PR's, sophomore Erica Ellis hit 13-3 both Indoors and Out for new Soph State Records.  She placed well at Indoor Nationals, and took the State Title as well.

8 - Soph Mike Miller runs 6.33 Indoors

Only four NY athletes have ever run faster indoors, and Miller has two more years to go. Running with unconventional form, the Chris Columbus sprinter is one to watch in the coming years, as the record of 6.31 is tantalizingly close already.

9 - Treston White wins 600m From Slow Heat

All eyes were on Suffern for the possibility of an unprecedented 1-2 sweep in an running event at States, but it was the slow heat that got the best of the tactical final.  The Lockport senior was the top returner heading into the season, and saved his best race for last.

10 - FM Shocks, Sweeps

While many eyes were on the FM girls at NXN-NY, as they were primed to finally move to double digit victories out at NXN, their boys team completed the team sweep at Regionals, after not even making it past Sectionals. Even more, they did so with only 6 guys, as their 5th man was back home in the hospital undergoing emergency surgery.

11 - West Babylon Goes US #6 All-Time

With a quartet of girls who grew up in the program together, it was victory lap season for the relays.  They won the 4x800m at the State Qualifier, and swept the Indoor and Outdoor State Meet 4x400m.  However, their best mark came from Outdoor Nationals, where they won the SMR is an outstanding performance.

12 - Kam McIntosh's Final Race To Recovery

After a season full of questions, McIntosh returned from open heart surgery during the Indoor Season, and made it back for one final race at Spring State Quals.  She would go on to help her team qualify for the State Meet, before preparing for College.
