3. Suffern (2) This team has a big challenge on Friday, taking on some very strong teams. They have the ability to be an upset team with Greany up front and one more jump by their #5 girl.
4. Mahopac (4) A small improvement from the 4-5 position on this team would make them much tougher on Friday. This is a pack running team with the ability to have a big impact on the outcome of the AA meet.
5. White Plains (5) The continuing rise of this team amongst it’s peers has been fun to watch. If they all run very well on Friday they will be another team that might have something to say about the overall champion.

A Girls (previous week rankings in parenthesis)

1. Ursuline (3) Westchester County’s best team is poised to be the best in Class A and perhaps best in the merge on Friday. Leading her team to the state meet would be a feather in Sullivan’s cap in her final season as their leader.
2. Brewster (1) 2nd. place at Northern Counties, beating a tough Mahopac team in the process. 21:01 average is good going into Friday, they will have to get the #5 closer to the rest of the pack to challenge Ursuline’s pack.

Section 1 Boys’ Open Rankings- Week of 10/26/08

1. North Rockland (AA) (#2 previous week)Proving to be one of the top teams in New York State, as they are currently posted as #6 on the top 10 list. They will have a big opportunity on Friday to show their stuff against the rest of Section 1. 16:05 team average at Bear Mt. for the Rockland Co. Championships to win the title.

2. Arlington (AA)(#1 previous week) #7 on NYS top ten list. Winners of the Northern County championships at the relatively young course in Pawling. 17:06 team average. These guys will have “home court” advantage on Friday in their backyard at Bowdoin Park. Their front 3 are very tough and can make it hard to beat them if they pop the races they are capable of.

3. Suffern (AA)(#3 previous week) Ran to a 16:13 team average at Bear Mt. to take 2nd in the Rockland Co. Championships. The return of McKenna adds strength to the front of this pack and will make them dangerous on Friday. If the Galasso brothers and Namnum can pop some great races, this team will give all others a run for the title.

4. Scarsdale (AA)(#5 previous week) Westchester County repeat champions at Van Cortlandt park with a 13:42 average team time on the trails. Bubble team in the New York State AA rankings. They will be right in the thick of things on Friday, as this senior laden team promises to leave it all out on the course.

6. Mahopac (AA)(#6 previous week) 3rd. at the Northern County Championships running 17:47 without their leader, Abed El-Latif. Putting their leader up front with McDounough running the way he is will make this a powerful team.

They finished 3rd. in their league behind Brewster and Horace Greeley. You can see how tight this second half of the draw can be on any given day. The meet on Friday will be great to watch.
