New England 600m Record For Agyare-May!

He set the state record last week at the Coaches Invitational.

On Saturday, Rodney Agyare-May did one better.

The Burncoat High senior not only broke his own Massachusetts' mark at the Armory Track Invitational, but also established a New England record in the process. Agyare clocked a winning time of 1 minute, 18.40 seconds. That effort dipped under the 2009 NE mark of 1:18.72 by Connecticut's Cas Loxom, the current 600m world record-holder.

Agyare-May is currently the No. 1 runner in the country for 600m by nearly two seconds. Trumbull's Tyler Gleen, whio was second at the Armory Track Invite, is at No. 2 with his time of 1:20.21. Newton North's Theo Burba is at No. 6 with his best of 1:21.02.

The Bay State also had one of its own competing in the girls' 600m. Acton-Boxborough's Samantha Friborg, who currently ranks No. 9 in the country, was fifth overall. She was timed in a solid 1:35.50.
