Kaitlin Ryan Of Bronxville Hits Sub-2:50 In The 1000m For Second Day In A Row

Armory, NYC - Don't like the time you ran? Try again tomorrow.  Stanford-bound Kaitlin Ryan (Bronxville) took the colloquial advice literally, as she clocked her second consecutive personal best in as many days.

Running at the Armory Track Invite on Friday night, Ryan would grab a US #3 mark for the 2017 season, finishing runner-up to Virginia's Rachel McArthur.  The race came down to a final lap kick, where McArthur found an extra gear to propel herself to the line.  Ryan was quickly in tow, dipping under 2:50.00 for the first time in her career.  The mark moved her from NY #14 All-Time, down to NY #10 All-Time.

However, as is typically the case for the Section 1 Class C Championships, Super Bowl weekend meant their Sectional Title would be on the line.  Although usually occurring on Sunday, the meet was moved to the hours following the conclusion of the Armory Track Invite's Saturday portion.  There, Ryan would hit the track less than 24-hours later, and break her newly minted personal best yet again.  She ran away from the field with ease, this time unimpeded by tactics, and clocked a full-second improvement, and then some.  Her new best stands at 2:48.42, still a US #3.  It also moves her up to NY #4 All-Time for the event, as well as US #25 AT.  She would also compete in the 1500m, winning in 4:43.93.  Ryan is NY #2 in the 1000m, trailing only Sammy Watson, who set a National Record in the 600m just hours earlier, on the same track.

Kaitlin Ryan was not the only fast Ryan this weekend, as Section 3's Sophie Ryan (no relation) of Fayetteville-Manlius had displaced Kaitlin Ryan as NY #2, before she would retake the spot with her race at the Armory. S. Ryan ran a Section 3 Record of 2:50.90 at Utica College.
