Anna Kostarellis Becomes Section 5's Second Fastest Miler Ever

Boston, MA - A late entrant into the event, Anna Kostarellis (Churchville-Chili) came out as the top New Yorker in the Girls Mile at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix.  She took down NY #1 miler Kelsey Chmiel (Saratoga) and sophomore standout Lily Flynn (Ursuline) to take home the honors.

The bronze medal time of 4:55.52 was a significant personal best for the senior.  Her first real outing over the full distance, Kostarellis broke 4:40 in the 1500m for the first time just last week.  The downward momentum means she will be in the mix for what is shaping up to be a loaded 1500m at the State Meet.  Not only that, but the mark has some local significance.  According to our records, Kostarellis is now the second fastest miler in the history of Section 5, only behind Sammy Watson's 4:47.49 at the same meet last year.  Kostarellis bettered Deresa Walters (Penfield '88) previous Section 5 #2 of 4:56.57, as well as Eileen O'Hara's (Webster Thomas '13) mark of 4:57.97, which was the previous Section 5 #3.
