Kyree Johnson Moves to NY #13 All-Time After 48.09 Win Over 400m

Staten Island, NY - It's shaping up to be quite the year for the sprinters of New York.  One such name is Kyree Johnson (Huntington).  Far from unknown heading into the season, Johnson is already a State Record Holder (in the spring 4x400m).  However, he is making a name as an individual as well.

He is currently NY #2 in the 55m with a 6.43 season's best, as well as NY #3 over 300m in 34.49.  Closing off the night at the Ocean Breeze Holiday Festival, Johnson was apart of a stellar 4x400m, which now rests as US #2.  But it was how he started off the day, that was making waves.

Running in the Invitational 400m, Johnson powered away from the 300m National Leader, Eric Allen of Bullis, to clinch a hard fought victory.  The time was 48.09, and was a national leader at the time, only surpassed by .01secs about an hour later, by Brian Herron of Lakeside, GA.  The mark is a Long Island Record, surpassing Anthony Ewers of Lawrence.  Ewers was formally the 300m State Record Holder, before being surpassed by Rai Benjamin (Mt. Vernon) in 2015.  The mark also holds a special distinction, as it brings Huntington's number of athletes on the 400m All-Time Indoor list to two.  Infinite Tucker is NY #24, meaning Huntington joins Lawrence, Mt. Vernon, Thomas Jefferson, and Tranit Tech as the only schools to have two athletes on the list.  Newburgh is currently the only school with 3.
