McIntosh, Hennelly Open Up Indoor Season For Suffern At Ocean Breeze

National Record Holder Opens Senior Season Strong

Kamryn McIntosh was only a sophomore when she shattered the 600m National Record twice in consecutive weekends.  She went on to win the 600m at the State Meet, as well as the 400m Indoor National Title.  One year later, as a junior, her indoor season was cut short by injury during the XC season.  Fighting to come back, McIntosh had to wait until February to touch the track.  She would take second at States that year, to none other than Sammy Watson.  McIntosh ran 1:34.43 for the silver medal.

Now a senior, and having her best cross country season ever, and McIntosh has returned to the track.  She opened her season with a 1:32.98, her fastest season debut of her career.  She did so at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility, which will host the State Meet for the first time this year.  Things bode well for the Clemson-bound senior, as she will likely face Watson once again, come March.

Mary Hennelly Back On Track

There was another return to form for a Suffern athlete.  Freshman Mary Hennelly missed most of her cross country season this year with a fractured growth plate.  There were thoughts that she would be back by the Manhattan Invite, but further healing would be needed.  She returned to competition on  Wednesday for the first time since her 8th grade year, where she set numerous class State Records.

The return also means good things for the relays.  Last indoor season, fellow Rockland county rivals North Rockland set the Indoor National Record in the Distance Medley Relay.  With the duo of McIntosh and Hennelly healthy, and the addition of teammate Rachel Ludwidkowski, Suffern looks poised to challenge them come Nationals.  Suffern won the event a year prior to the new National Record, with three of the four still available legs.  We'll see how things develop from here, but it should be very competitive.
