Ramone Newland Matches NY #1 From 2016 in Season Debut At Armory Hall of Fame

Armory, NYC - One of the biggest names in sprints in the New York made his debut over the 55m distance this past weekend, and to no surprise, it was fast.  Ramone Newland (South Shore) was third in the 55m last indoor States, but really found his stride once hitting Spring Track.  There, over 100m, he finished runner up, but posted a the State Leading time of 10.48 in the prelims.

Opening his season at the Armory Hall of Fame Invite, Newland captured the win over 55m with a quick US #3 performance of 6.39.  Not only does that tie him for NY #25 All-Time, it also puts him equal to the fastest time run over the entirety of the last Indoor season.  However, Kyree Johnson (Huntington) is close as well, posting an early season 6.43.  Rounding out the Top 3 is Newland's teammate, Garfield Napier, who took second in 6.45.

While Newland was a force in the individual events, South Shore was best known for their relay.  However, Newland and Napier are the only athletes back from that relay.  Despite the graduation/aging out, South Shore managed to come back with a 1:30.90 State Leading mark in the 4x200m, promising much faster times to come.  The time is now US #6, the position they finished at NBIN last year.
