Crusader Classic Meet Recap

Crusader Classic: Monroe Woodbury, Central Valley, NY

At Monroe Woodbury's home Invitational, the team of FDR saw individual wins on both the boys' and girls' side of competition. Everyone who ran at the state meet last year can remember how brutal this course can be to run but that didn't stop some teams from coming back and attacking this course once more.


In the girls' varsity race, Sarah Trainer, and freshman from FDR won her first big race with a time 19:20. Following Trainer was a huge pack of Monroe Woodbury runners, filling up eight of the top ten spots, Allyson Lyle of James I O'Neal was the only one to split up the Monroe Woodbury team, placing 5th overall. With a dominate showing, the Monroe Woodbury team one the varsity race with 22 points, beating runner up FDR's 50. The Monroe Woodbury team was led by senior Annie Kurdziel and sophomore Jessica Pidgeon, both running the time of 20:01 and placing 2nd and 3rd respectively.


The girls' freshman race was won by Amilia Wise-Sweat, a freshman from Newburgh Free Academy with a time of 12:05 on the 1.8 mile course. The Paramus team beat the Monroe Woodbury team in a close race and a final score of 27-28.


Wyatt Matyas of FDR won the boys' varsity race in a time of 17:01. Wyatt led his team to a victory over Monroe Woodbury, 21 points to their 61. Monroe Woodbury's top finisher was Kevin Paik in 5th with a time of 17:49. The closest race was between the 4th and 5th place teams where James I O'Neal beat Wallkill with Ikaika Cruz's 34th place finish to beat out Wallkill's 6th runner in the tiebreaker.


The boy's JV race was won by Kajetan Leitner of Monroe Woodbury in 19:07. Leitner led his team to a victory over Highland, scoring a low 15 points to their 53. Highland's top finisher was Benjamin Vargas in 10th place overall, with a time of 20:15.



The boy's freshman race was won by Newburgh Free Academy's Billy Corcoran in a time of 9:57, being the sole individual to run under 10 that day. Monroe Woodbury won the team race with 25 points to runner up FDR's 51. Monroe Woodbury's top runner was eighth grader Keith Allen, 2nd overall, in a time of 10:05.
