Course Record Holders Come Back For More - McQuaid Meet Preview

Girls Seeded Varsity AAA

Individuals:  Last year, it was all about the Canadians, as they took the top two seeded races for the girls at McQuaid.  In 2016, Jessica Lawson (Corning) will be looking to take the course record back home to America.  She held the record as a sophomore, but lost it to Canada's Shona McCullogh in 2015.  Conditions may be tricky, but Lawson is on a roll, smashing her own course record at Pre-States.  She'll be pushed by two local athletes in particular.   Anna Kostarellis (Churchbille-Chili) is looking back to her NXN-qualifying form of sophomore year, notching an easy win at Pre-States.  Amanda Vestri (Webster Thomas) took down the defending State Champion at Pre-States, proving she is not to be underestimated.  West Genesee is rounding back into form, and Carly Benson was 4th to Lawson's 2nd at the last State Meet.  Katrina Patterson (Clarence) and Sammy Watson (Rush-Henrietta) round out your top names to know.

One Canadian to count on would be Mei Mei Weston (Glebe Collegiate), who took runner up in the AA race last year.  She's moving up to the AAA Seeded race, and it could very well be with good reason.

Teams: From the State Rankings, you have NY #4 Corning and NY #7 Webster Thomas duking it out. The teams finished 3-4 at Pre-States, and without the top two teams around, there will be little wiggle room for either.  NY #10 Niskayuna is next best in the field, and will be looking to break in.
