The Great State Meet Preview: Outdoor 2016

Girls 800m

Event Info: 2015 Winner: Kamryn McIntosh (Suffern) 2:05.63, State Record: 1:59.51, Meet Record: 2:05.63, State Qualifier Mark (FAT): 2:15.64 (D1) - 2:16.64 (D2)

State of the Action

This race should kick off what may be the most competitive girls' distance fields in recent memory.  Sage Hurta is your top seed, and has the fastest pr's of anyone in the field, at almost every distance.  However, Hannah Reale has been known to pull in a clutch performance when need most (see Penn Relays 4x800m), and took down Hurta at the Eddy Games by a good three seconds.  Sydney March is a National Record Holder for the DMR, where she ran the 800m leg, while Amelia Mahoney has some of the best range in the field.

This is the first race where a D2 athlete is favored to win the whole thing.  Expect the race to go out fast, as the field is too compact in personal bests to leave it up for a kickers race.  The two girls from Section 1, Katie Devore and Kaitlyn Ryan, both know how to close a relay leg, and would make them  more dangerous than their seed would suggest in a kickers race.  We could expect a blanket finish here, so it's anyone's fight across the line.
