State of the Action

The boys 3200m is hard to pin down heading into the State Meet. The top seed is clear, as Noah Affolder set the Junior State Record at Loucks with an impressive time, the home of his seed time.  But there are extenuating circumstances here.  Affolder knows he has a tough race less than 15 hours later, the Steeplechase, where he isn't the top seed.  On top of that, he will have (arguably) the most competitive 3200m field of his life to look forward to a week later at the Brooks PR Invite.  The question is whether or not he goes all out, or turns it into a kickers race, as he did at Section 3 State Quals.

For Ryan Kutch and Ben Petrella, those worries are irrelevant.  The 3200m is their lone solo event, and the goal will be to take home the title.  To do so will require a strong pace, of which Kutch and Petrella are capable of.  As mentioned in the 1600m write-up, Dan Schaffer is ripe for a big performance, and shouldn't be overlooked in his first outing of the weekend.  As the lone athlete in the Top 8 to not have run at Loucks, he will come in as the unknown.

We're not sure how this race will play out, but its almost guaranteed to go faster than last years affair.
