State of the Action

No athlete has been able to defend his 1600m State Title since Alex Hatz of FM did so in 2010, but that is exactly what Conor Lundy is looking to do.  While it seems top distance athletes like Tooker and Affolder cleared the way by opting for other events, Lundy isn't out of the water just yet.  Dan Schaffer has been on a tear all season, dropping significant times in both the 3200m and 1600m.  The difference is that he has been doing them in isolation, not once leaving the section for the bigger competition that has spurred the times from Lundy.  The same argument could be said for Steve Neumaier, who won the 1000m at States Indoors.  Both could make a move for that State Title.  Noah Carey is looking to dip under 4:10, and with the right pace, will do so and challenge for the win.  Plenty of drama left to unfold here.
