Sam Wray Takes Top American In Penn Relays Discus Championship

The senior from Starpoint, Sam Wray, can add another accolade to his résumé.  The Section 6 standout already holds the New York State Junior Record for the Discus, achieved last year at 193-8.  Well, it's time to go one step further.  Wray tossed the Discus 186-8 on his 4th throw of the competition at the Penn Relays, which was the top American throw.  The mark was second overall behind Kino Dunkley of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, who threw 189-11.

The performance earns Wray a Gold Watch, as the top American.  He also had three throws over 180ft in the damp conditions of the early season.  This bodes well for the senior, who will be chasing the Overall New York State Record of 202-9, set by Andy Bloom (Niskayuna) in 1991.
