The Indoor State Meet Bids Farewell To Cornell In Record Fashion

Boys 1600m

Event Info: 2015 Winner: James Burke (Port Jefferson) 4:17.88, State Record: 4:05.50, Meet Record (2000s): 4:11.21, State Qualifier Mark (FAT): 4:28.74

State of the Action:  Without a clear leader in the field, these races are total gambles.  David Leff was the first to take the gamble, pushing away from the field in the opening laps.  He continued to pull away, as none of the rest of the field intended to go with him.  The two second gap began to close by 800m, as the frontrunners noticed they were coming through even with the 3200m race from before.  Kevin Moshier, whose home track is Cornell indoors, made the first move, pulling Kevin Hazelwood along with him past Leff.  Feeling strong, Moshier continued to push once past, and wasn't able to be reeled in.  Hazelwood made the race close, but couldn't catch the junior from Section 4.
