What a performance by Kate Murphy
of Virginia. Megan Reilly gave pressure from the gun, allowing the two of them to separate early, and guarantee a fast time. Three laps in, Reilly began to feel the early pace, but it wouldn't slow down Murphy, who steadily split until 200m to go. When the bell lap came, Murphy kicked in, even after having the race all but wrapped up. The junior from VA powered through the line to a US #2 All-Time performance (for amateurs), an effort that would be announced as the National Junior Class Record. Murphy mentioned she has a lot more in the tank, as they had done a hard effort workout just days before, which makes us excited for the future. As for Reilly, she demonstrated how impressive the mark really was, as she was 10 seconds back, yet still blasted the State Leader and US #4, just ahead of Amelia Mahoney.

The fresh legs of Kaitlyn Ryan proved to be the difference maker in the dwindling laps. Originally entered in the 600m, Ryan dropped the event for the longer distance. The race quickly turned into a duel with Keelyn Cummings, who would post a significant personal best in the event for second place. But Ryan utilized her longer stride best, and pulled away from the field to win.

While it was billed to be quite a matchup, Kelsey Chmiel took the reins early from Alyssa Aldridge in the opening laps. Chmiel began to steadily pull away by 10th lap, and wouldn't let go of the pace. Although it is off her former Nation Leading 9:50 run one week early, it was still a strong performance to reinforce her fitness.
