Chanelle Price (Easton, Pa.) will go after the national high school record in the girls’ 1,000-meter run this Friday night, Feb. 8, at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the Armory in New York.

Price broke the girls’ national mark in the 500 meters on the Armory track two weeks ago, running 1:10.30. The record in the 1,000 is 2:43.40, set 3 years ago by Sarah Bowman, of Warrenton, Va.

Price leads the country this indoor season in the 500, 800 (2:09.3) and 1,000 (2:47.85). Last summer she ran the 800 outdoors in 2:02.38; only Kim Gallagher and Mary Decker have run faster as preps. On Friday, she will contest the Junior girls’ event, at 8:25 p.m., against a field that includes Kristen Reese (Carmel, N.Y.), who has run 2:53.50; Sarah McCurdy (Bay Shore, L.I.), who has run 2:12.40 in the 800, and fellow New Yorkers Caitlin Lane (Greenwich), Emma Miller-Bedell (Orangeburg) and Dana Walsh (NYC).

The boys’ 1,000 includes the current national leader, Parker Boudreau (Danbury, Conn.), 2:28.93; the winner of the Millrose mile, Kyle Merber (Long Island), and Andrew Perkins (Watertown, Wis.), who ran 1:50.17 outdoors in the 800 in 2007. The race is scheduled for 1:39 p.m. Saturday.

New York City teams will be prominent in the meet’s high school relays. Benjamin Cardozo (Queens), led by Dalilah Muhammad, will run the girls’ 4x8 on Friday night against a powerhouse field that includes current national leader Conestoga (Berwyn, Pa.), which has run 9:11.48; IHA and Randolph from New Jersey, and New York schools Bronxville, Burnt Hills/Ballston Lake, Colonie, Saratoga and Holy Names of Albany.

The girls’ 4x4 will match the current top 3 teams nationally, with Eleanor Roosevelt of Maryland (3:48.54) facing Boys & Girls (Brooklyn), 3:51.44, and Cardozo, 3:51.81. Roosevelt will also be in the 4x2 and 4x8. The 4x2 and 4x4 will be held on Saturday.

Boys & Girls, led by sprinter Nadonnia Rodrigues, will also run the 4x2, along with Swenson Arts & Technology, of Philadelphia, led by sophomore star Shanae Bailey.

The boys’ 4x8 includes Morris Hills (N.J.), which has run 7:56.11 this winter, and Half Hollow Hills West, Kyle Merber’s team. The 4x8 is Friday, the 1,000 Saturday.

In addition to the Invitational 4x2s, there will be PSAL races this year for the first time, at 3:51 and 3:55 p.m. Saturday.

In the Junior weight throws, athletes from Providence, R.I., are the favorites. Patrick Onye, who has thrown 67-5 1/4, will contest the boys’ competition Friday night; Victoria Flowers is favored in the girls Saturday afternoon. Flowers broke the national high school record this indoor season, throwing 61-0 ¾.
