High School, Juniors Events set for New Balance Collegiate


         Eight high school relay races and four individual Juniors events are set for this year’s New Balance Collegiate Invitational Feb. 8-9.

         Interested parties should contact the Event Coordinator, Dan Doherty (dohertyd@optonline.net, 845-596-3625) as soon as possible for consideration.

         The boys’ and girls’ 4x2 and 4x4s will be contested Saturday afternoon, Feb. 9. The 4x8s will be held Friday evening, Feb. 8. For the first time, there will also be a PSAL 4x2, on Saturday. For the complete time schedule, consult the meet home page.

         A girls’ weight throw has been added to the Juniors lineup;  this will be held at 4:10 p.m. Saturday. The boys’ weight and girls’ 1,000-meter run will be run Friday evening; the boys’ 1,000 will be on Saturday.

         Last year’s inaugural boys’ 1,000 produced the fastest time in the nation for the 2007 season (Axel Mostrag, Fork Union, Va. 2:26.11). Mostrag is now a freshman at the University of Tennessee.

         The first two boys’ weight throws were won by Walter Henning (South Huntington, NY). Henning is now a freshman at the University of North Carolina.

         In addition, a 4x200 for 4th- and 5th-grade boys and girls has been added to the program.  This event will be held on Friday evening.
