Girls Sprints

Anytime Medgar Evers and Benjamin Cardozo toe the line against eachother, the outcome is sure to be fast. Karimah Senior, Brenessa Thompson, and Janai Cameron of Medgar Evers, will face off against D'Jai Baker, Emma Gallagher, and Paris Peoples of Cardozo in every event from the 100m up to the 400m. Look for each to come back on the relay. Thompson has already posted a strong 11.81 performance for the 100m, while Gallagher has the state leading mark in the 400m Hurdles. This should be a battle.

Boys Distance

Fresh off their 4x800m finish at Indoor Nationals, Frodham Prep's Joe Prunty will be tackling the distance double at the Mayor's Cup. But he will have Marco Pompilj to deal with as well, who has opted for the same double. The pair come into the mix evenly matched, and will have to push the pace to catch Pat Tucker of Saint Anthony's State Lead in the 1600m.

Girls Horizontal Jumps

Marie Josee Ebwea-Bile swept the jumps indoors, and will continuing on her return to full strength outdoors. While the conditions may not cooperate, Ebwea-Bile is a significant force on the runway. Sara Kaye-Freeman of Taft will look to challenge for the title as well.

Boys 400m Final

While there are some notable names missing from the PSAL, the final will be no less loaded. Anton Porter (Mount Saint Micheal) and Kermani Mighty (Clara Barton) are both All-Americans Indoors, with the addition of Kiambu Gall (Robeson), Christian Blades (Tilden), and Kimani Anderson (Medgar Evers), you can more than expect to see several marks under that 50-second barrier.

Barriers

Speaking of barriers, there are several to look out for. While we mentioned Gallagher in the 400m Hurdles, Freshmen State Record Holder on the boys side, Ronaldo Griffiths (Clara Barton) will return to the event this weekend. Griffiths ran 52.61 as a frosh, which is superior to Rai Benjamin's own Sophomore State Record. In the short hurdles, Indoor State Champion Sidney Gibbons (Monsignor McClancy) will double the indoor distance, while Shayla Broughton (Medgar Evers) will do the same on the girls side of the competition.

Benjamin Is Back In The US

Rai Benjamin (Mount Vernon) is back from the Carifta Games, where he almost hunted down a sub-46 in the 400m. Opting to follow the warm weather, his next venture is California, where he will be pursuing the 200m and 400m Invitational events, plus two relays with his more than capable teammates. Benjamin broke out onto the national scene as a sophomore over 400m hurdles, but has since yet to open his season over that event.

Robeson Makes The Trek

Amanda Crawford may have been the face of Paul Robeson this Winter, but their relays will look to shine abroad. Entered in multiple events, the quartets of the City will bring some heat back to New York. However, Crawford will also be in the Invitational 400m, while Alyssa Sandy will also make some room for the 100m Hurdles.

Syosset Arrives

Riding the wave from a sub-7:50 performance at Indoor Nationals, Syosset is entered in the Invitational 4x800m at Arcadia. Could they put in a strong State Leading performance, in an event where the leader currently stands at 7:59. Stay tuned to find out.
