Can anyone take down Ryan Clark (Banneker, GA)? The University of Florida commit is the nation’s fastest short sprinter, leading the country at US #1 6.68 60m and US #1 6.25 55m this year. Don’t underestimate the Lyles brothers, Noah and Josephus (T.C. Williams, VA), who ran US #2 6.27 and US #3 6.28 for the 55m just yesterday at the Virginia State Championship.
Defending New Balance Nationals Outdoor 100m champion Darryl Haraway (DeMatha, MD) is also entered. He is US #3 6.76 for 60m and tied at US #3 6.28 for 55m this season.

Jaron Flournoy (Westland John Glenn, MI) has the best range of any sprinter this year, but his bread-and-butter event seems to be the 200m, where he has run US #1 21.16. After winning the Michigan State Finals, he said the only runner he’s scared of is Ryan Clark (Banneker, GA). The Florida commit is heavily favored in the 60m and with his US #2 21.22 200m ranking, could potentialy pull off a double victory.
Andrew Hudson (Steele, TX) will be in the mix, ranked US #3 21.36 in what was his only indoor track race ever.
300m studs Rai Benjamin (Mount Vernon, NY) and Noah Lyles (T.C. Williams, VA) should see their season-long efforts pay off in the one-lap race. Benjamin is US #1, US #2 All-Time with his 33.17 300m, the more common indoor race distance in New York.
Lyles is US #2 33.82 and a factor in every race he runs.

Boys 400m

Breakdown: Talk about stacked.  This race is one we have all been waiting for since it was a missed opportunity at Spring States of last year.  Rose and Brown will both come in fresh, and the top competitors will just have come out of the 60m final.  Benjamin is US #1 in the 300m, but Brown has the fastest split of the season in the country, and could put pressure on defending national champ Rose.

The open 400m could very well be the most unpredictable event of the meet. William Allen (Dunbar, KY) is the nation’s best this season over 400m with his 47.16. Skyler Bowden (Saline, MI) is the reigning Michigan State Champion, State Record Holder, US #3 47.66 and, oh yea – he trains with a guy named Jaron Flournoy.
But with so many odd races in off distances during the indoor season, the future national champion may not even be currently ranked within the top five.
Rai Benjamin (Mount Vernon, NY) – US #1, US #2 All-Time 33.17 300m, the more common race distance in NY. Also the New York state record holder//T-US #4 21.37 200m//US #4 47.76 400m
The defending New Balance Nationals Indoor 400m Champion Richard Rose (Boys and Girls, NY) – has raced sparingly in his signature event this winter but ranks US #1 1:18.4 600m. Just yesterday at the VHSL 6A State Championship, Josephus Lyles (T.C. Williams, VA) split 34.7 over 300m en route to winning the 500m title in US #1 1:03.57 500m – there’s no looking past those wheels.

This race will be a showdown between two all-time performers in Chad Zallow (Warren-JFK, OH) and Grant Holloway (Grassfield, VA). Fans may see history in action, as Zallow flew to US #3 All-Time 7.62 60H and Holloway went US #1, VA #2 All-Time 7.19 55H at their respective state meets this past weekend.
Other top competitors include North Carolina State Champion Marcus Krah (Hillside, NC), who is ranked US #2 in both the 60m at 7.81 and the 55m at 7.24; Shyheim Wright (Northwest, MD), US #3 7.27 55h; and Norman Grimes (Canyon, TX), US #3 7.82 60h.

Though his US #1 mark was finally surpassed by John Lewis (Cheltenham, PA), Terrell Jackson (Memphis, TN) still reigns as the national scene's monster kicker. His 1:50.63 mark ranks US #2 and with Lewis skipping the open race to focus on the relays, the junior is the favorite for his first national title. But it won't be easy. Elias Graca (Fox Chapel, PA) has a killer kick down the straightaway and is the only other prep under 1:51 this year at US #3 1:50.86. Defending New Balance Nationals Outdoor 800m Champion Donavan Brazier (Grand Rapids, MI) is ranked US #5 1:52.54 but will be dangerous to watch. Don't sleep on James Asselmeyer (Arlington, NY), who has split 1:50 on relays this year and ranks US #2 for the 1k at 2:25.86.

The defending New Balance Nationals Indoor Mile Champion is not only US #1, but ranks US #6 All-Time in 1,600m/Mile with his 4:04.46 1,600m Michigan State Finals victory. The Stanford commit is the class of a field that includes several sub-4:10 milers, including New Balance Grand Prix Junior Men's Mile Champion and US #2 4:08.75 performer Logan Wetzel (Saline, MI), Rhode Island State Champion and US #3 4:08.76 performer Jack Salisbury (La Salle, RI) and Pennsylvania State Record Holder and US #5 4:09.56 miler Sam Ritz (Germantown Academy, PA). Millrose Games champion and 4:11 miler James Burke (Port Jefferson, NY) will also be in the mix.

How many boys can go sub-9? Last year, three preps broke the barrier. Andrew Hunter (Loudon Valley, VA) broke through for 3,200m this season with his US #1 8:59.67 run, while Alex Ostberg (Darien, CT), US #1 9:00.58 Two Mile, leads a slew of competitors on the verge. Ostberg won the New England Championship just ahead of in-state rival Eric van der Els (Brien McMahon, CT), US #2 9:08.67 Two Mile. Levi Thomet (Kodiak, AK), US #3 9:02.18 for 3,200m, will contend with the lead pack, as will 9:05 performers Conor Lundy (Fordham Prep, NY), New York State Champion Aidan Tooker (Saratoga Springs, NY) and defending New Balance Nationals Outdoor Two Mile Champion Mike Brannigan (Northport, NY).

Preps typically only race this event at the national championship, leaving pundits to speculate based on cross country strength and two mile prowess. Elijah Armstrong (Pocatello, ID) bypassed the 2 Mile, where he ranks US #2 9:01.04 for 3,200m and US #4 9:14.09. The Boise State signee is a proven distance specialist, having recorded a third-place finish at Foot Locker Nationals this past fall as well as a runner-up, 14:29.58 finish at the 2014 New Balance Nationals Outdoor and a 14:48.72 third place at last March's NBN Indoor. US #2 9:08 Two Miler Eric van der Els (Brien McMahon, CT) will warm up for the Two Mile Championship with the 5k, his first appearance in a national championship. 2014 New Balance Nationals Outdoor Two Mile Champion Mike Brannigan (Northport, NY) will also race; he is the US #6 ranked 3,200m runner this year at 9:05.5. Foot Locker finalist Casey Comber (Hatboro Horsham, PA) and St. Benedict's Prep, NJ XC star Edwin Rutto can't be overlooked either.

The top three seeds in the Boys Long Jump have all jumped 24 feet or farther this season and make up the top four on the national leaderboard, led by US #1 Ja'Mari Ward (Cahokia, IL) at 24-7.25. With a good day, the two-time Illinois State Champion could walk away with not one but two national titles - the junior is also ranked No. 2 in the triple jump. Behind Ward, dangerous players include Charlie Lambert (Xavier, NY) at US #2 24-6 and Harrison Schrage (Grant, OR) at US #4 24-3.

Jaron Brooks (Henry Clay, KY) has lept a head and shoulders above the rest of the competition this season - or at least an inch. The junior is ranks US #1 at 7-1, just ahead of US #2 Grant Holloway (Grassfield, VA) - the only other competitor to clear seven feet this year. But watch out, fellow Virginian Bradley Jones (Oscar Smith, VA) stole the show at the duo's state championship on Monday with a 6-10 final height. Jones is tied for US #5 with 12 other competitors who have cleared the height this season and will battle for top honors with US #3 6-11 Christopher Garrick (Marvin Ridge, NC) and US #4 6-10.5 Brandon Piwinski (Warren deLaSalle, MI).

With not one but two National High School Record Holders in the field, the Boys Pole Vault looks to be the most competitive field event of the weekend. Current record holder Paulo Benavides (El Paso Franklin, TX) enters the championship as the prohibitive favorite, given his credentials as the only prep to clear 17-11 indoors. The University of Kansas commit will have to be on top of his game to fend off Deakin Volz (Bloomington South, IN), who held the national record for a few hours and sits at US #2 17-10. Another Texan, Brandon Bray (China Spring), is undefeated this year and ranks US #3 17-6. The University of Texas commit was fourth at the 2014 New Balance Nationals Outdoor behind Benavides.

Could we see another national record go down? Can a high school boy clear 18 feet for the first time in indoor prep history? It is the #YearoftheVault, after all!

The three-time Kansas State Champion and Indiana University signee will face his biggest competition from US #2 New York State Champion Eric Favors (North Rockland, NY), who broke the year-old state record last weekend with his 66-1 throw (pictured). PTFCA Champion Jordan Geist (Knoch, PA) is seeded third with his US #3 heave of 66-0.75.
