Shakin\' Off the Dust

NY Cross Country Opening Weekend

After a long summer of training, dreaming, relaxing, and hopefully some more training, opening weekend is finally here.  We’ve had a long summer here at ArmoryTrack.com as we tried to get everything ready for our addition to the MileSplit Network.

This weekend will be slow but many top teams will still be in action and “shakin’ off the dust”.

The Rob Breen Invitational on Staten Island, named after the former Farrell runner who tragically died in a car crash, should see some good down state action.

Washingtonville’s Wizard Invitational also showcases some of Section 9 and Section 1’s best talent.  Last year the Kellenberg boys and Suffern girls won the titles.

A new invitational gets under way at Vassar College as the Spackenkill Invitational debuts.  Seven teams will toe the line.

The Ursuline Invitational gets the Van Cortlandt Park season under way for the girls.  The Ursuline girls team should be very good this year and this should be an early indicator of just how good.  Sometimes the Bronxville girls have raced at this meet as well.

Section 2 has the Shaker Invitational, now called the Edwin Springstead Invitational.  Last year Shenendehowa and Queensbury were both there, and as we all know, if it’s a Section 2 meet, there will be some of the best teams in the country there.

The Saranac Lake Invitational gets things going in the North Country.  Last year Lee Berube (Ticonderoga) won the title and he is the top NY returner from Footlocker NE last year.

Other Invitational across the state this weekend include the Central Square Invitational (Section 3), South Jeffereson Invitational (Section 4), and the VVS Invitational (Section 3)
