Competing without one of its top runners, nationally-ranked La Salle Academy held its own at the Bowdoin X-C Classic at Wappinger Falls, N.Y., on Saturday.

The Rams, minus star junior Jack Salsibury, who is sidelined temporarily with a sore quadricep, finished second behind perennial power Christian Brothers Academy. The New Jersey-based squad compiled 41 points, while the Rams racked up 54 points for their runner-up placement.

CBA junior Blaise Ferro claimed the individual title with a time of 16 minutes, 10.10 seconds. Junior Matt Bouthillette led the Rams by taking third overall at 16:18.70. Sophomore teammate D.J. Principe was sixth, crossing the line in 16:23.30. Rounding out the scoring for La Salle was junior Jake Grundy (13th, 16:38.40), senior Dan Paiva (17th, 16:58.20) and senior Chris Notarianni (22nd, 17:18).

The course at Wappinger Falls will be familiar grounds to the elite squads in the field such as La Salle. It will be the site for the Nike Northeast Regionals in late November.
