Nassau County Class Champs: A Prelude to Sectionals

Bethpage State Park, NY - The conference champs took place this past week for Section 8, comprehensively bringing together Nassau teams for the first time all season.  We were there to check out how the races played out, and what they meant for next week.

 

Boys Conference 1

The boys of Syosset took home both the individual honors, as well as the Team title, winning with 32 points.  The effort was led by junior Tyler Italiano.

 

Girls Conference 1

Calhoun's Grace Moore had a distinct lead on the race, winning by almost a 45-second margin.  The Syosset girls would make it a team competition sweep, winning with 35 points.

 

Boys Conference 2

Kieran McCarthy of South Side ran away, down the backstretch to win the individual title in 16:45.7.  Wantagh would go on to win the team title.

 

Girls Conference 2

Garden City took home both team and individual titles, highlighted by the Gerland sisters, Jen and Stephanie, going 1-2 in the conference 2 race.  They also won the race with 46 points.

 

Boys Conference 3

Joe Miller of Seaford pushed through the cold and the wind to take home the title in the last varsity race of the day.  And in a close race, North Shore boys took home the team title in the smallest schools division of the day.

 

Girls Conference 3

Daniela LoCastro of Cold Spring Harbor won the girls smallest schools race by a large margin.  North Shore girls impressively took the team title by placing 4-8, garnering 25 points.
