NYSPHSAA Outdoor State Champs Meet Recap

MileSplit NY - The regular season of Track and Field is officially over, with only Outdoor Nationals on the horizon.  For the elite few, World Youth Trials are coming up in late June, but for most, athletes will be forced to say goodbye to friends and teammates.  But not before they competed one last time, at the New York State Meet.  With torrential downpours the friday of competition, coordinators combined the meet to one day, which had an affect on those who chose to double.  But the times were still fast, and the competition still fierce, and we were on scene to capture it all.  Click below for your meet recaps, and keep on scrolling to catch twenty of our best pictures of the day!

The state meet is the last time many teams will run together, and many take that time to bond.

It takes low clearance over the hurdle to produce the fast times to qualify for the final.

There is nothing like winning to bring a relay team together, as the Northport girls know all too well.

The pain of the last 100m in the 1600m run can be discouraging to some, but not when you can feel the state title in reach.

Competitors on the track, most athletes are not too proud to lend a hand.

The mix of exhaustion and elation can be found on most athletes faces after the race.

Competitors knew the 1600m would go out fast, which is why the start more resembled a sprint.

For many athletes, the state meet coincides with prom and graduation, and many could be seen with the hairdo's still standing.

The high jump came down to the final attempts, and junior Rubin Owens had the best form over the bar, unfortunately clipping it with the heels.

The 3000m race stretched out early, leaving nothing to the pack mentality.

When you approach the pits, it's important to zone out everything else.

Caution: you may get wet as a spectator of the steeple.

You would be tired too, after winning the 100m in a State Meet Record time.

Realizing you've won it for your relay on the anchor leg is a feeling like nothing else in the world.

So much so that all that goes through your mind is, "I can't believe we won"

And the first people you seek are those that helped your through it.

You always have to thank the competition for pushing you to a crazy personal best.

Many relays consist of seniors and juniors, and the state meet will be the last time competiting with them.

The sunday after the state meet usually consists of the steeplers filling their shoes with newspapers to dry them out.
