Disney and ESPN have collaborated to form a truly first class World of Sports in Orlando, Florida. The landscape was filled with fields and fields of track and field athletes, lacrosse players, softball and baseball teams, competitive cheerleaders and dancers, sports enthusiasts, and the Atlanta Braves. Highly competitive athletes from Princeton, University of Arkansas, University of Mass., Iowa and Florida State, to name a few, made the college men and women events exciting. High School athletes also came from all over the country and as far north as Nova Scotia.

Eric DiNome, Dan Calapai, Brendan Page and Alex Cecere have been seen to be practicing hard in recent weeks. The results are beginning to show for these senior runners.

Eric DiNome ran the first and fastest leg of the 4x400 meter relay at Donny Dendy in 58 seconds.

On October 5th, 2009, according to the Armory rankings, Jessica Kendzor ran the fastest 5K run to date for the 2009 Cross Country season, in Westchester County, New York, with a time of 19:19.19 at the Brewster Bear Invtational. On October 12th, Tully Runners Leaderboard listed Jessica Kendzor as the 16th fastest Class B Cross Country runner in New York State based on her 118 speed rating. For further information, Google "Tully Runners Leaderboard." According to the Armory rankings, Jessica also had run the fastest time this season in Section 1 for the 5K distance for Class A, B, C, or D at this point as a result of her 19:19.19 time at Brewster.

Coach Sister Janet (42nd Year), Coach Larry Elliott, Coach Jake Bergmeier, and Coach Frank Mannion watched as the JFK Catholic boys and the JFK Catholic girls Cross Country teams defeated the Dover boys and Dover girls teams at JFK, home of this year's 49th Annual Sterling Invitational. Coach Jake Bergmeier and Coach Larry Elliott made the trip to Syracuse, New York to guide Dylan Schuck and Jessica Kendzor as they represented JFK Catholic at the NYSPHSAA State Track Meet to close another successful season. Thank you coaches for your sacrifices and your expertise all year long. We appreciate your dedication and hard work, which led our athletes to 4 League Championships and double-digit individual All-Star honors throughout our remarkably exciting 2008-2009 year. All hail the JFK XC, Track and Field champions!

On page S6 of the May 27, 2009 edition of the North County News, Roy Arnesen and Isaac Cass wrote the following about the girls in the Sectional meet: Kennedy Catholic - led by Jessica Kendzor's first place finish in the 800 (2:20.2) - placed 10th with 30 points. Breeda Mannion took third in the 1,500 at 4:59.0, which was a personal best. Danielle Asaro finished third in the 100 with a time of 12.8. Also, an excellent photo of Jessica Kendzor by Jacob Bergmeier / www.nodophotography.com appears on the same page with a caption that reads: Kennedy Catholic's Jessica Kendzor competes in the 800 meters at the Class B sectionals Thursday at Tappan Zee High School.

On page S6 of the May 27, 2009 edition of the North County News, Roy Arnesen and Isaac Cass wrote the following about the boys in the Sectional meet: Kennedy Catholic placed 11th as a team with eleven points, which were all scored by its jumpers. Jessie Aprile placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 41-11 3/4 and also placed fifth in the long jump at 20-1 3/4. Dylan Schuck placed sixth in the long jump at 19-10 and Frank Visovsky placed fourth in the high jump with a height of 5-8.

Congrats and thanks to Richard Sune. Congrats to Rich for his 5th place finish for Manhattan College in the MAAC Men's Triple Jump. Manhattan men's team won its 12th straight MAAC Championship, while the Women's team won its 10th MAAC championship in 12 years. Thanks to Rich for coming back to Kennedy to work with Jesse Aprile, Dylan Schuck, Frank Visovsky, Jennifer Cicchetti, Michael Campobasso, and the rest of our jumpers. He has helped them truly excel at their events.

The North County News gave JFK Boys and Girls an "Honorable Mention" in their Top 5 Track and Field team picks of the week. This fact comes from the May 13th edition of The North County News. Here is a shout back (Yo!) to the NCN staff for their consistent reporting and award winning sports news. Your efforts help create an air of excitement for the athletes and members of our local sports community.

Special thanks to Coach Frank Mannion for guiding our athletes through the nationally recognized Loucks Games at the new 8 lane Track and Field stadium at White Plains High School this past week. Our athletes faced competition from all over the US and Canada.

Athletes, their parents, college scouts, and college coaches are appreciative for the behind the scenes work by Jake Bergmeier to computerize results for our League Championships, Sterling Invitational, etc. This data is sent to the Armory Track website. At the Armory site, Tim Fulton and staff have the results transmit, automatically, to our athlete's profiles. This data reflects into news feeds, onto personal best lists, on latest performance charts, onto athlete career graphs, and into comparative county, section, state, and national ranking charts. A number of college coaches have directly informed me that they periodically check our athletes profiles on the Armory Track site. Coach Bergmeier's development of JFK XC & Track and Field websites has helped stimulate renewed interest in these special programs at Kennedy. Furthermore, nobody takes photos like Coach Bergmeier takes photos. Many of our athletes have been able to see action photos of themselves as they compete on the track, in the fields, and through the trails. These action shots create additional excitement for our athletes. Thanks Jake!

The 33rd Annual Joe Wynne Somers Lions Club Track and Field Invitational was held this weekend at Somers High School. The event is dedicated to Joe Wynne, Brandon's grandfather. On Saturday, Brandon ran a personal best on the track at the meet, a tribute to his grandfather, who had the foresight to create and support such an event. The Wynne family remains heavily involved with Track and Field at Kennedy, in the town of Somers, and beyond. We are all fortunate to have their continued support. Many thanks to The Wynnes.

Everybody is thrilled to see Sr. Janet Meehan back in action at JFK this week. Thank God!

Thankfully, Coach Bergmeier, Abby, and the rest of JFK's Team / Vacationers who are in Venice, Italy are safe and sound following the earthquake tragedy. The epicenter was just 70 miles away from the vacationers. Coach issued a "We are OK" twitter message just hours ago.

Sister Janet, Coach Mannion, Breeda Mannion, Tina Kendzor, Peter Kendzor and Jessica Kendzor celebrated Jessie's State medals by dining at & closing Roscoe's Famous Diner. Roscoe's has had many famous visitors including the legendary band, The Beatles. A good time was had by all. Jessie and her family wish to thank you for your support.

Kennedy fans rock the Armory. Kennedy Fans are the Ultimate in Track and Field Racing. For example, during Leagues at the Armory, Kennedy fans cheered loudly for Kennedy athletes. In between, cheering for JFK runners, Kennedy fans cheered for their favorite athletes from Ursuline, Pleasantville, New Rochelle and Mt. Vernon. There is no fan quite like a Kennedy fan.

Look closely on the back cover of the North County News. Mr. Cartaya (Carlos's dad)is pictured in the background of the picture in partial sweatsuit attire leading some to surmise that he too deserves some consideration and recognition as this week's NCN Athlete of the Week.

Here is a review of recent news and announcements on our website: The best athletes from over 60 schools attended and competed in the West Point Invitational Championship Meet this week. Wynne, Cartaya, Aprile, and Kendzor were honored to represent JFK at the Invitational. Jessica Kendzor achieved National Elite Status with a 5:03.81 time in the 1500 M. Later, Jessica also recorded a 2:27.32 in the 800 M (Section 1's best time this season). Jesse Aprile qualified as 12th for 55 M Dash finals with a time of 7.01. Jesse captured 15th with a 7.09 in the finals. Carlos Cartaya ran 56.66 and finished 31st in the 400 Meter Run; while, Brandon Wynne ran 4:45 in the 1500M a to finish 40th. At the West Point Invitational, Jesse Aprile (55M), Carlos Cartaya (400M), Jessie Kendzor (1500M & 800M) and Brandon Wynne (1500 M) recorded Personal Bests. All hail these Gaels!

T- Tolan finished 6th in the 800 Meter run at Fordham Prep. Breeda Mannion (72.1) placed 5th in the 400 Meter Run. JFK Catholic's 4 x 400 A Relay Team Runs 4:05 to a twelfth place finish. Brandon Wynne finished 15th in the 1600 Meter Run at with a time of 4:57. Abby Henry took 4th, scored 2 in the 1600 Meter Run for JFK at this event known as the Ignation Invitational. Kendzor coasted to a 1st place victory in the 800 Meter Run. Mannion, Henry, Tolan, & Kendzor took another 1st Place in the 4 x 400 Meter Relay. The JFK Varsity Girls Finished 3rd at Fordham Prep in the Ignation Invitational. For the JV teams, Kerry Ford finished 6th in the Sophomore Girls 1600 meter run. The Kennedy sophomore boys' 4 x 200 Meters relay team had the 8th best time at the event.

Breeda Mannion finished 9th and Katie Mittlestadt came in 17th in the 3000 Meter Run at the Armory Kick Off. Not long afterward, Breeda Mannion finished in 8th Place in the Girls

Coach Larry Elliott unveiled his masterfully crafted Top 10 List. The list included special tributes to the Freshman, the Parents and Breeda Mannion. Do not miss his next comedy special on HBO in the Spring.

Our Kennedy coaches form the perfect trinity. Our runners are fortunate to have their combined expertise. For example, stop and see Coach Elliot diagnose a runner's ailment or provide much needed humor after a rough race. Observe while Sister Janet Meehan administers a verbal prescription to add to the runner's bath water or whispers a word of advice to psyche her runners up. Listen while Coach Jacob Bergmeier advises his runners to use different spikes, pick the perfect set of running shoes or flats or snaps their running profile for their portfolio. Runners, consider yourselves blessed!

The coaches are all very excited for the upcoming Westchester County Championships and Sectional Championships. All three coaches are extremely excited to see their Varsity athletes compete in what is sure to be two exciting races. They have the utmost confidence that their athletes will garner awards for being one of the top teams.

Catherine Traynor sped up her performance and finished 4th for the team, to help our Kennedy girls rise to the tough competition at the Coaches Invitational! Keep up the good work Catherine.

Colleen Iral cracks the top 5 for the Kennedy girls to help the girls place better than League rival Pleasantville at the Coaches' Invitational.

"Pebbles" Henry and Eric DiNome have strong third place finishes at the Coaches' Invitational. Go Gaels!

Coach Elliot remarked that all Kennedy freshman boys set personal best records in the freshman race at the Coaches' Invitational. Congrats

As predicted last week, Carlos's best race of the year had not been run yet this year. He came through to lead the team to victory at League Championships just when he was needed the most. 10/17/08

Concerning the boys, on 10/16/08, Dan Marra of The Journal News wrote "League III-North: Kennedy secured first place with 50 points, beating out Pleasantville (58). Marco Sammon of Croton-Harmon took first in 16:50."

Look for Matt (senior) and Brendon (junior) to use their experience and step it up in the coming weeks to help the boys in the Leagues, Counties and Sectionals. Reminder: Top 7 Runners count in team scoring? Who is it going to be Kennedy? Who will step it up?

Abby Henry, Catherine Traynor, Doran Hastings, Emily Thomas, & Sara DiNome and Michelle Pappalardo are some of the runners to watch who will be key to a good showing for the girls in Leagues, Counties, and Sectionals as the first 7 places matter the most in scoring.

Emily Thomas's XC season ends with a family run around Thanksgiving known as the Turkey Trot. Emily's distance times are getting better and better. Good luck, Emily!

October 13th, 2008 Update: Jessica Kendzor moved up to 30th and Breeda Mannion moved up to 57th on the NYS Girls Leaderboard published by Tully Runners. Brandon Wynne moved up to 72 and Carlos Cartaya is now 112th on the NYS Boys Leaderboard. These are the Class B Rankings.

Mr. Cartaya organized Kennedy's spot at the Manhattan Invitational. He spread our tarp next to 2 team benches,under some shady trees. Thanks, Mr. Cartaya.

Alex Cecere & Zach Cecere are this year's brother/ brother act at Kennedy while Eric & Sara DiNome are our brother & sister act. All 4 have finished in the top 7 in XC races to help our team scores. Thank you!

Coach Elliot credited Mr. Cecere for helping him help the Freshman gain access to the 2008 Manhattan Invitational. Thank you Mr. Cecere.

Mr. Wynne pounded the rock and dirt and sped up the cowpatch path at the Manhattan Invitational. He outdistanced 20 family members (some of them elite runners) and all JFK boosters to be the first to cross the bridge and give runners their 2 mile times. Thanks, Mr. Wynne.

Brandon Wynne has shown excellent leadership qualities at Kennedy. His notebook analysis of the competition is impressive. Brandon's willingness to test run courses such as St. Anthony's course prior to the actual event this weekend is both smart and inspiring. Running at Green Mountain in Vermont with his teammate and good friend, Carlos, has proven to be excellent preparation for this cross country season. His dedicated training schedule has helped him become strong and overcome the hip fracture which sidelined him for his junior year. We applaud his effort and wish him luck as he leads his team during the 2008 season.

According to the October 24, 2007 issue of the North County News, a quote from Emily Novak, senior captain of the Lady Gael Champions, reads "When you're running a tough race and you're getting tired, you definetly push yourself because you don't want to disappoint her. You want to make her proud. A lot of the girls have told me that."

Reflections concerning Sister Janet... According to the October 24th 2007 Issue of the North County News, a quote from Roy Arnesen, friendly rival coach from Somers High School track reads "She's just a legend in Section1."

Its a Tie! In this week's self poll the question of the week was pondered. What makes the photos of Kennedy runners just so darn good? Is it the work of our ace photograhers such as Jodee Novak and Coach Bergmeier? Or, is it the runners themselves? With 100% of the vote counted, 50% of the vote went to the photographers and 50% of the vote goes to the photogenicity of the subjects (the runners).

Regarding the Grout Invitational in Schenectady, the October 10, 2007 edition of the North County News reads "Junior Brandon Wynne led Kennedy Catholic boys with an 11th place finish in the Division II race at 15:33. Junior Carlos Cartaya placed 15th in 15:53." Congrats boys!

Thanks to the Visovsky Family, the Novak Family, and the Lopilato Family, Kennedy is now ranked as the #1 Cross Country Pasta and Party School this week in this writer's self poll.

Kennedy Boys and Girls are in the NCN Top 5 once again as of 10/11/07. Girls are ranked 2nd. Boys are ranked 5th.

Kennedy girls improved their record to 4 wins and 0 defeats. Team captain Emily Novak ran her Personal Best and broke the 21:00 barrier on the rugged Kennedy course to lead her team to victory. The Kendzor sisters finished 3rd and 4th in the race. Jessica was 3rd and Tina came in fourth with her Personal Best time. Mary Anderson was 5th and Abbey Henry finished 6th. Lauren Hatch took 9th place just ahead of Kristina DePalma who came across the finish line in the 10th spot. The Gaels are improving every week in true team style.

In the boys race against Briarcliff, on 10/2/07, Nick Lopilato won the race with a time of 17:58. Brandon Wynne finished 2nd on the team and in 3rd place overall in 18:22. Carlos Cartaya finished 4th. Eric DiNome placed 5th. Augie Iannotta was 7th overall. Alex Cecere took 8th place and Kevin Spillane was 10th. It was a strong showing for the Kennedy boys.

The Kennedy team showed stregth in depth and poise at Sterling. Races included teams from Pleasantville, Hastings, Byram Hills, Dover, Our Lady of Victory, Westlake, Arlington, John Jay, Yorktown, FD Roosevelt, and North Salem. The large number of runners in each race is significant. In the Freshman boys race at JFK's Sterling Invitational, Dan Hammer finished 15th, Brian Schwenk finished23rd, and Peter Ceravino was 27th. In the JV Boys race, Eric Karabinos finished 40th, Marc Napolitano was 46th. Frankie Visovsky finished 57th. Brendan Page was 58th. Charlie Hirsch came in 68th. For the JV girls, Lauren Hatch took 15th place. Maryrose Fabrizo was 17th, Michelle Pappalardo finished 18th, and Shannon Fitzmaurice came in 20th place for the Gaels. In the girls varsity race, Kristina DePalma was 24th for the Gaels. In the boys race, Kevin Spillane and Alex Cecere finished 31st and 32nd, respectively. Congrats.
