Seven of the 12 athletes running for Pitt, Duke, and Lock Haven in the Distance Medley Relay in early February at the Collegiate Invitational in New York graduated from Pennsylvania high schools.Two are in this photo by John Dye of Dyestat.com... Chris Spooner (Lewisburg), running lead-off for the Duke Blue Devils, and just behind him, Ryan Blood (East Pennsboro), for Lock Haven. And North Carolina\'s women were 2nd by .08 to Villanova, going 11:05.31 with the help of Penn Wood graduate Danielle Rodgers.
Simon Gratz didn\'t match their US#1 1:27.96 4x200, but getting with a quarter of a second is pretty good as their 1:28.19 won the HS event at the New Balance Collegiate Games. Their second leg faded in the 4x400, and a furious rally brought them to 2nd in 3:21.98. Teir US#1 3:20.14 was eclipsed by Newburgh NY with a 3:17.82.
PA HS grads ran very well in the collegiate portion.
The Simon Gratz relays have been blazing this year, and currently hold the top US times in both the 4x200 and 4x400, as well as the 1600 Sprint Medley Relay. Next up, the New York Armory...
