Morrison evens score with Roth at NSIC MileSplit Staff Mar 14, 2006

After taking a close second to California\'s Scott Roth at the Nike Indoor Nationals pole vault competition on Saturday night, Great Bridge senior Mike Morrison went up against Roth again Sunday at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships held at the New York Armory. Despite battling illness, Morrison took the national title over Roth with a clearance of 16\'5.50\". Morrison raised the bar to 17\'7\" for his next height as he was unsuccessful in attempting to break the meet (17\'6\") and national record of 17\'6.50\".

Kaylyn Christopher a junior from Preston High School out of Kingwood, and Sam Crosby of Riverside High School of Belle had nice performances at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships (NSIC) . WV High School Runners in National Meets Douglas McDaniel Mar 11, 2006

2005 AAA 3200m State Champion, Maria Dalzot, from Morgantown will be competing Sunday in the 2 mile run at the National Scholastic Indoor Championship (NSIC). The NSIC is held at the New York Armory in New York, New York. 2005 AAA 1600m State Champion, Kaylen Christopher, of Preston will be competing in the 1 mile run at the Nike Indoor National Championship (NIN) held at the Prince George Sports and Learning Center in Landover Maryland.. Also competing Sunday at the Nike National meet is 2005 AAA Long Jump champion Sam Crosby of Riverside. Let\'s wish them all good luck. (If I have missed any, please let me know.)

MD Athletes at NSIC Ben Thomas Mar 11, 2006

Several Maryland Athletes took part in the National Scholastic Indoor Championships on Friday. Cara Harrison of Quince Orchard broke 19 minutes in the 5k, posting a great time of 18:59 and finishing 9th. Jeffrey Perlis of Sidwell Freinds also did a fantastic job in the 5k, running 15:45. In the girls 60 meter hurdles, Kamilah Bossett ran 9.3. On the boys side, Geoffrey Daley of DeMatha qualified for the finals, running an 8.22. More updates as they become available

Day 1 Highlights from NSIC MileSplit Staff Mar 10, 2006

No All-American finishes from Virginians on the first day of competition at the National Scholastic Indoor Championship, but there were several noteworthy performances. In the 5000 meter races, Lake Braddock sophomore Anna Corrigan finished 10th with a time 19:01.53 and Atlee senior Rebecca McDowell was a 13th place finisher at 19:20.62. Meanwhile, Christiansburg senior John Horst ran a solid indoor 5K time of 15:42.01 to finish 16th in the men\'s race. Two Virginians competed in the long jump for the girls with Atlee junior Mansfield Murph (16th, 17\'2\") and Charlottesville junior Rashawnda James (22nd, 16\'3.25\"). The remaining performances were reserved to the large contingent of Lake Braddock in the athletes entered in the meet. Lake Braddock girls finished 10th in the 4x55 meter shuttle hurdle relay (36.49) for one of their top team performances from Friday.

NIN Sunday: 400: Bensalem\'s Reggie Carter wins the 400 Dash in 48.71 seconds to add a national title to his state one. Laurel Highlands\' Brehanna Jacobs and Coatesville\'s Tierra Flowers get 2nd (7.43) and 6th (7.75) in the finals of the 60, while Jacobs also secures a 3rd place in the 200, running 24.66. In the High Jump, Erin Hannon, Bradford, cleared 5-08.75 to take 2nd, while Coatesville\'s Emily Moles was in a 8-way tie for 5th by clearing 5-05.00. Also earning all-American status was Germantown Academy\'s Elliot Rhodes in the 800 with his 5th place 1:56.58. In the 4x800, Conestoga went 9:33.16 to take 4th. NSIC Sunday: How about improving on your US #1 time and adding another national title to your resume as a fitting end to your high school indoor career? Well, that\'s exactly what Latavia Thomas (in photo by Rick Goettel from Sunday\'s 800 Final( did as the West Catholic star won a loaded race in 2:07.92, beating Easton\'s Chanelle Price for the 2nd time in two weeks. Thomas also helped her Burrs\' teammates take 3rd in the 4x400, running 3:47.91. In the 4x200, Simon Gratz ran 1:28.20 for 2nd place. The boys of North Penn improved their PA title time by a nose, but this time there were three other teams a bit stronger. Their 7:53.52 will keep them atop the rankings in PA as the season is now in the history books.
