Wagner Sets Records At New Balance Invitational

Wagner's men's and women's track and field teams competed at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational held Friday and Saturday afternoon at the New York City Armory Track. The Seahawks witnessed three record breaking performances and two season-best marks at the two day meet.

The women's distance medley relay team consisting of Samantha Lauro (Staten Island, NY / St. John Villa), # Becca Valente# (Grantham, NH / Lebanon High School), Cameo Kirk (Ocean Port, NJ / Shore Regional) and Alexis Bivona (Staten Island, NY / St. John Villa) finished tenth out of seventeen while setting a school record in the event by crossing the finish line in 12:15.52.

The men's distance medley relay team finished an impressive second while also setting a school record of 10:02.98. The relay was led by Daniel Zaccariello (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph's By The Sea) followed by Derek Schultz (Ocean Port, NJ / Shore Regional), Colin Macdonald (Dix Hills, NY / Commack) and Thomas Iannacone (Havertown, PA / St. Joe's Prep).

In addition to leading off the distance medley relay team, freshman # Daniel Zaccariello# (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph's By The Sea) set a school record in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:54.94. The rookie Sehawk finished an impressive 11th out of 69 in the event.

Junior Sheena Taylor (Twinsburg, OH / Detroit Mercy) set a new season-best mark in the shot put with a mark of 12.97 meters while junior Zachary Spector (Yaphank, NY / Longwood) finished the 3000 meter run in 8:36.82 which is also a season-best time for the Green and White.

Wagner track and field is back in action at the NEC Championships held of Saturday and Sunday February 12th and 13th in Prince George, Maryland.
