XC Course Preview: Lakeside Park

PARKING: $10 PARKING FEE

All spectator parking will be at Pawling High School where non-stop spectator buses will transport to and from the Park.

The trip is about two or three minutes and the wait is about 5-10 minutes, so spectators who arrive 15 minutes before their desired race should have no worries about getting there in time. We did have a few out of over 2000 who showed up at the last minute and were a little panicky.

Parking is $10 per vehicle regardless of the number of passengers and this money will help offset the shuttle buses which are free to all. No parking will be allowed on side streets without risk of being towed or ticketed. - Meet Management

Lakeside Park Pawling..What a goofy XC course! How can anyone call this a state championship quality course? It is an embarrassment to the NYSPHAA and the section hosting it.

Why do you say that? what's goofy about it? what I like about it is that's it's different than many other courses, tactical yet it has fast parts and a killer hill, different approaches for different kinds of runners on this course, there is more than one way to run it, that's what makes it so interesting IMO.

Yeah I kind of agree. When I ran the course as a senior I couldn't imagine the course being a State Championship course. It narrowed down rather quickly, was rather narrow in some parts, overlapped other parts, and seemed kind of like a course that was thrown together for a high school dual meet. I'm hoping the fix it up, and mark the course well for the state meet, as in some instances, people have gotten lost on the course.

Doesn't have the same aura as Sunken Meadow, but that is a high quality course.

I agree with it narrowing down quickly from the start but the rest of the course is improved, my kid loves running on it and as far as the start goes it's something to keep in mind, you need to get out quickly and avoid being boxed in or what my kid does if he can is to run on the fringe so he has a little more freedom if he needs it.

My kid likes the course so I can't bitch too much. Hard course & tactical difficulties are good...that's what kids at this level should be dealing with. Good luck to them all!
My complaint is with the overnight housing...our kids are at a REAL rathole of a motel (Dirty sheets, hairs, stains, etc. Filthy bathrooms, etc) Unsatisfactory.

@adkmike who's decision was it to pick that hotel/motel, you can't blame that on the course? There are plenty of high quality places to stay within 30 min. of Pawling.

@bxvtrack Obviously not the courses' fault...that's a big 'Duh' (Perhaps my comment should have been a different thread?) In any case I believe the hotels were set up by the NYSPHSAA. Missed the ball on this one!

In all fairness to Jack Power, he did a hell of a job with what he had to work with. And...the better hotels are in Fishkill, about 45 min away.
