2010 Big Red Invitational Results
ITHACA, N.Y. -- After a busy week at the Penn Relays, the Cornell track and field teams played host to 17 college and club teams on Sunday at the Big Red Invitational at the Robert J. Kane Sports Complex. Despite cool and rainy weather, the wind was mild and there were a number of very strong performances.
The women had five event wins, to go along with an ECAC qualifier. Senior
Natalie Gengel won the pole vault with yet another ECAC-qualifying effort, clearing 12-7 1/2. Freshmen
Claire Dishong and
Lindsey Patterson both cleared 11-9 3/4 to finish second and third. Another pair of freshmen also performed well as
Sonate Dan-Princewill won the high jump with a clearance of 5-5 and
Ailish Hanly was second at 5-3. On the track, senior
Lindsay Broyhill won the 800 in 2:13.95 with classmate
Caroline Heidt close behind in second in 2:15.04. Sophomore Dani Silas won the 100 hurdles in a seasonal best 14.48, leading classmate
Taylor Baird (14.80) and junior
Lauren Tanz (14.90) to a 1-2-3 Cornell finish. In the 5000, junior
Kristin Sellers had a big personal best to win going away, crossing the line in 17:39.36. Sophomore
Shelby Herman was second in 17:50.56, another personal best. Also finishing in the top three were sophomore
Emma Clarke in the 1500 (2nd, 4:45.36) and freshman
Rebecca DeLong in the long jump (3rd, 17-10 1/4).
Next up is another home meet, the Cornell Outdoor Invitational, on Saturday, May 1 and then the Big Red will head to Princeton for the Outdoor Heps on May 8-9 and again for the ECACs on May 14-16.
