Leonia, NJ – The Wagner College Women's Outdoor Track and Field Team placed seventh at the METS Outdoor Championships at Overpeck Park Sportsplex this weekend. Sophomore
Sheena Taylor (Twinsburg, OH/Detroit Mercy) led the way with two top-three finishes in the Shot Put and Hammer Throw.
Like she has all season, Taylor continued to dominate the field events. This weekend, she started with a third place finish in the Shot Put – launching a 12.42-meter mark. From there, Taylor placed third out of 16 athletes in the Hammer Throw with a 43.10-meter distance. She later finished with a personal-best mark in the Discus at 34.77 meters. She placed seventh in the event behind teammate
Samantha Schueschner (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield), who registered a season-best 36.73-meter mark.
Both freshman
Kelly Dennis (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa Academy) and junior
Mishelle McNamara (West Covina, CA/West Covina) registered season-best times in their respective events. Dennis placed first out of seven runners in the 3000-meter steeple with a time of 12:20.5, while McNamara took second in the Pole Vault at 3.20-meters.
Other impressive finishes include sophomore
Francyna Evins (Staten Island, NY/Curtis), who claimed the third-fastest time in the 400-meter run at 1:02.98 and junior
Jessica Balling (Seaford, NY/MacArthur), who had the second-best time in the 800-meter dash at 2:22.81.
Wagner finished in seventh place with 66.5 points. St. John's University won the event with 170 points.
Seahawks travel to Philadelphia, PA on Thursday to take part in the Penn Relays. Recaps will be available later that day.
