PRINCETON, N.J. (4/3/10)
— Colgate University sophomore Elise DeRoo (Newton, Conn.) shattered the school record and finished second overall in the 5,000-meter run to lead the Raiders at the Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton University.

DeRoo finished second with a record setting time of 16:35.61, just 0.38 of a second behind Melissa Newberry of Princeton. DeRoo's time qualified her for the ECAC championships and broke her own school record time of 17:07.15 set two-weeks ago at the Carolina Spring Break Classic. DeRoo now ranks 18th in the Eastern Region and 35th in the nation.

Sophomore Kelly Cattano (New Providence, N.J.) also ran in the 5K posting a personal-record time of 17:50.18, which ranks third in the Patriot League this season.

Classmates Kendall Lyons (Wilton, Conn.) and Chelsea Burns (Seattle, Wash.) both set personal-records in the 1,500-meter run with 4:36.00 and 4:36.10. They are now ranked second and third in the Patriot League, respectively.

Senior Ashley Niness (Berwyn, Pa.) finished fifth with a lifetime best time of 2:15.08, in the 800-meter run, then followed with a personal-record time of 26.11 in the 200-meter dash. Both times are among the top-10 in the Patriot League.

The Raiders will continue their outdoor season on April 9-10, at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
