BOSTON, Mass. (3/7/10)
— The Colgate University women's track and field team set a new school record in the Distance Medley Relay at the ECAC Championship meet on Sunday, March 7.

Sophomore Chelsea Burns (Seattle, Wash.), junior Michele Miller (Silver Spring, Md.), senior Ashley Niness (Berwyn, Pa.) and sophomore Elise DeRoo (Newtown, Conn.) shattered the school record in the DMR with a time of 11:45.36. The previous record of 11:53.72 was set earlier this season at the Giegengack Invitational.

Burns led off the relay with the 1200-meter leg, and was able to stay with the lead pack, before passing the baton to Miller, who ran her stretch of 400 meters. Next was Niness, who finished the 800-meter leg, helping the Raiders gain ground on the pack, before DeRoo finished off the relay with the 1600-meter leg, the longest stretch.

The Raiders kick off the 2010 outdoor season on March 19-20 at the San Juan Invitational in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
