Women's Track Finishes Sixth at Patriot League Championship

WEST POINT, N.Y. (2/21/10)
— Colgate University sophomore Elise DeRoo (Newton, Conn.), along with senior Ashley Niness (Berwyn, Pa.), and the Distance Medley Relay team captured titles to lead the Raiders in the final day of the Patriot League Indoor Championship at Army's Gillis Field House. The Raiders finished sixth overall with 60 points.

Bucknell took home the crown with a team-high score of 168, while defending champion Navy was second with 96 points. Colgate had six all-Patriot League performances on the afternoon.

DeRoo won the 3,000-meter run title with a personal-record time of 10.00.27, earning all-Patriot League first team honors, while Niness was crowned 800-meter run champion with a personal-record time of 2:16.43, to earn first team accolades.

Niness was also a member of the DMR team that won the third title of the day for Colgate. Chelsea Burns (Seattle, Wash.), Kendall Lyons (Wilton, Conn.), Niness and Michele Miller (Silver Spring, Md.), won the title with a time of 12:16.05.

Miller also finished second in the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 26.04, while Burns finished third in the mile with a time of 5:03.14.

A large portion of Colgate athletes will compete again on March 6 at the ECAC Championships in Boston.
