Update: Former Sea runner/coach in passes after accident

Dan Kelley, a former distance runner and frosh coach at St. Joseph by the Sea, passed away Saturday morning after nearly a week in "extremely critical condition" at Staten Island University Hospital. Kelley was hit by an intoxicated driver while running on Hyland Boulevard, Jan. 5 and suffered severe head and chest injuries.

Kelley was struck by a black Honda Civic driven by Gypsy Porfirio, 34, of Brooklyn, as reported in the Staten Island Advance. Porfirio allegedly told police that she had taken the painkiller Percocet and Xanax. Sources said the police found those drugs and the sleep-aid Ambien in her car.

Kelley, 23, coached from his graduation in 2004 until 2007. He was running with his girlfriend, Gina Siclari, who holds the school's 5,000-meter record. She suffered a broken ankle and some bruises..
